Perth & Kinross homes to get £1.93m for insulation.

Breaking News: Perth & Kinross Council Secures Nearly £2 Million Funding for Insulation Projects
Hundreds of homes in Perth and Kinross are in for a treat as they are set to undergo external and internal insulation work in the upcoming year. The Perth & Kinross Council has successfully secured £1,938,834 from the Scottish Government’s Home Energy Efficiency Programmes for Scotland – Area Based Schemes (HEEPS ABS) to carry out these essential upgrades.
The primary aim of this funding is to make homes in the area more energy-efficient and easier to heat. By reducing fuel consumption, residents will not only benefit from lower energy bills but also contribute towards reducing their carbon footprint, aligning with the country’s target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040.
Since the launch of HEEPS ABS by the Scottish Government in 2013, Perth & Kinross Council has been actively involved in securing funds to tackle fuel poverty and improve energy efficiency in local homes. With a total of over £17.5 million secured through the scheme, the council has already supported more than 2,000 households in the area with insulation works such as cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, as well as external and internal insulation.
The focus of these upgrades is on homes built using non-traditional methods, which typically pose challenges in terms of insulation. Fortunately, homeowners and private landlords can benefit from fully funded insulation projects through a combination of grants provided by the Scottish Government.
In the previous year, notable achievements under the HEEPS ABS scheme included internal wall insulation for 60 homes in Hillyland, Perth, and 33 homes in Letham, Perth. Additionally, 179 homes in Perth City, Kinross, Crieff, and Coupar Angus received external wall insulation.
Council’s Housing and Social Wellbeing convener, Councillor Tom McEwan, expressed his delight in receiving the latest round of funding for the HEEPS programme, emphasizing the council’s commitment to tackling fuel poverty and improving living conditions for residents. He highlighted the significance of making homes more energy-efficient to support the national goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040.
Councillor McEwan stated, “Fuel poverty remains a pressing issue across Scotland, exacerbated by the current cost-of-living crisis. However, in Perth and Kinross, we are determined to address this challenge. Ensuring that every resident has the right to live in a warm and comfortable home is our top priority, and the successful insulation programme is a testament to our efforts in achieving this goal.”
With the recent funding secured, Perth & Kinross Council is gearing up for more insulation projects in 2024/25, marking another significant step towards creating a more sustainable and energy-efficient living environment for its residents.
