Flora Wallace’s Scotland Housing Update
It is with great sadness that the Paragon Housing Association announces the passing of Flora Wallace, one of its founding members and vice chairperson. Flora, who also held the role of treasurer for EVH, passed away last week, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and commitment to the community.
Margaret Torrance, the director of Paragon, paid tribute to Flora, describing her as a true legend of Paragon. She spoke of Flora’s unwavering dedication to the well-being of tenants and communities, her steady leadership, and her wise counsel that inspired all those around her. Margaret reminisced about their 30-year partnership, recalling Flora’s instrumental role in establishing the Association in response to Scottish Homes’ stock transfer proposals.
Flora believed in giving tenants control over their homes and invested her energy into making that vision a reality alongside her husband George, the founding chairperson. Their dynamic as a couple added a touch of light-heartedness to serious meetings, where their opposing views brought a spark of humour.
Flora was known for her interest in various housing sector matters, actively attending conferences and events to stay informed. She was never shy about expressing her opinions and was respected for her candidness. Her family, particularly her granddaughter Lucy, meant the world to her. Flora took pride in the Association’s initiatives, especially when they built new houses near Lucy’s school, showing her granddaughter the impact of her work.
Flora’s funeral is scheduled for Monday, 27th May 2024, at 10 am at Falkirk Crematorium. The loss of such a dedicated and beloved member of the community has left a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
