Moray Council greenlights new tenant strategy

At the recent meeting of Moray Council’s Housing and Community Safety Committee, a groundbreaking decision was made that will empower tenants to have a say in shaping housing services. The approval of a Tenant Participation Strategy marks a significant milestone in the local authority’s commitment to promoting tenant involvement and feedback.

The consultation period for the draft Tenant Participation Strategy 2024-2029, which took place from 22 November 2023 to 16 February 2024, received widespread engagement from tenants. Through online surveys and the Moray Tenants’ Forum, valuable feedback was gathered, leading to the adoption of the strategy by elected members.

This strategic move follows Moray Council’s renewed dedication to the Social Housing Charter, which outlines the standards and outcomes that social landlords, like Moray Council, should strive to achieve for their tenants. By committing to working closely with tenants, the council aims to foster a stronger working relationship and amplify tenant input in decision-making processes.

The results of a recent survey on the strategy revealed overwhelming support, with 99% of respondents endorsing the revised approach, and 95% expressing satisfaction with the clarity and comprehensibility of the document.

Amber Dunbar, Chair of the Housing and Community Safety Committee, articulated the council’s determination to enhance participation opportunities, particularly among under-represented groups.

“We are dedicated to expanding the levels of involvement and engagement of all our tenants,” Dunbar affirmed. “The approval of the revised Tenant Participation Strategy paves the way for social housing tenants to actively shape future housing policies. We are eager to nurture this collaborative relationship with our tenants in the years to come.”

Moray Council approves tenant participation strategy

Through this strategic initiative, Moray Council is setting a precedent for tenant engagement and inclusivity in decision-making processes. The commitment to prioritising tenant feedback and involvement reflects a progressive approach to governance and community collaboration.

As the council forges ahead with the implementation of the Tenant Participation Strategy, residents can anticipate a more transparent and inclusive approach to housing services. By actively involving tenants in policy development and decision-making, Moray Council is paving the way for a more responsive and tenant-centric housing system.

With a strong focus on increasing participation from diverse and under-represented groups, the council is poised to create a more inclusive and equitable housing landscape for all residents. The approval of the Tenant Participation Strategy signals a new era of tenant empowerment and collaboration within Moray Council’s housing services.
