Vicky Read named ChargeUK’s first CEO.
ChargeUK, the leading electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure trade association, made a significant announcement on the 8th of May 2024. Vicky Read has been appointed as the organisation’s first-ever CEO, marking a pivotal moment in its evolution.
Prior to taking on this esteemed role at ChargeUK, Vicky served as the Head of Policy and Public Affairs at Connected Kerb and was also the Vice-Chair of ChargeUK from April 2023 to March 2024.
This appointment comes at the end of ChargeUK’s successful first year, during which the association has witnessed substantial growth in both its membership and activities. Starting with just 20 members in April 2023, ChargeUK has now doubled its membership to 40, including key companies responsible for the majority of charge points in the UK. These members also consist of charging manufacturers and other entities dedicated to supporting the expansion of charging infrastructure.
Vicky Read, the newly appointed CEO of ChargeUK, expressed her enthusiasm for her new role by stating, “It’s a tremendous honour to lead ChargeUK as its first CEO. The UK is currently undergoing a crucial phase in its transition to electric vehicles, and ChargeUK plays a vital part in facilitating this transition.”
She further added, “Our members are actively contributing to the exponential growth of charge point availability and have committed to investing billions of pounds in the upcoming years. This investment will ensure that all drivers have access to the necessary charging solutions.”
Vicky emphasised her commitment to collaborating with government partners and stakeholders in the energy and transport sectors to enhance availability and consumer experience. Her aim is to instil confidence in the UK’s transition to electric vehicles.
Chris Pateman-Jones, the Chair of the Board of ChargeUK, along with Steve Dunlop, the Vice-Chair for Operations, shared their thoughts on Vicky’s appointment. They stated, “The selection of a permanent CEO signifies a new chapter in ChargeUK’s growth and demonstrates our ambitious vision for the future.”
Highlighting the importance of EV charging infrastructure in achieving net zero, Technology and Decarbonisation Minister Anthony Browne expressed his anticipation of working closely with Vicky Read in her new role. He commended the strengthening of ChargeUK’s leadership team and acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the government and industry in expanding the charging network to support the transition to electric vehicles.
As more and more electric vehicles hit the roads, the significance of efficient and accessible charging solutions cannot be overstated. With Vicky Read at the helm, ChargeUK is poised to lead the charge towards a sustainable and electric future for the UK.
