Fife Housing Group’s Spring Support in Cost Crisis

Fife Housing Group recently hosted its Spring FLING community event in Methil, providing local residents with the opportunity to save, sell, and socialise amidst the ongoing cost of living crisis. The event, sponsored by Everwarm, offered guests a range of fantastic freebies including air fryers, meal kits, and shopping vouchers.

Attendees at the Wellesley Centre had the chance to engage in various cost-of-living-themed activities such as learning to sell clothes online, budget-friendly cooking, vegetable growing, and creating natural cleaning products. Colleagues from Fife Housing Group were on hand to provide advice on important topics like dealing with damp and mould, as well as checking payment and benefit entitlements.

The event also marked the launch of ‘Freeloved by FHG’, an initiative aimed at recycling preloved clothing by offering them to guests for free. Partners like Cosy Kingdom, HSBC, and Safer Communities were present to offer professional guidance on reducing energy bills, budgeting, and enhancing the local environment.

For the younger attendees, there were various activities to keep them entertained, including a ceramic painting station, a colouring competition, a face painter, and therapy dogs from Cariad Pet Therapy. The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the easy access to information and the helpful and kind demeanor of the staff.

Engagement officer Suzanne Hume, who played a key role in organizing the event, shared her satisfaction with the success of the Spring FLING. She expressed delight in seeing guests actively engaging in the cost-of-living-inspired activities and walking away with significant money-saving items like air fryers, all thanks to the generous sponsorship from Everwarm. The aim is to continue supporting tenants and communities through these challenging times, with plans to repeat the event in the west of Fife soon.

Looking ahead, another event focusing on supporting with the cost of living is scheduled to take place in Dunfermline towards the end of June. Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to save, sell, and socialise with Fife Housing Group.
