Polestar and StoreDot showcase new XFC technology.

Exciting News Alert!
Polestar, in collaboration with fast-charging battery pioneer StoreDot, recently achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully showcasing StoreDot’s Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) technology in a car for the very first time. The impressive demonstration involved charging a Polestar 5 prototype from 10% to 80% in a mere 10 minutes – a remarkable feat that is set to revolutionise the future of electric vehicles.
The noteworthy achievement took place with the help of a fully driveable verification prototype, which exhibited a consistent charge rate starting at 310 kW and peaking at over 370 kW towards the end of the charging process. This demonstration not only showcases the cutting-edge capabilities of XFC technology but also highlights Polestar’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the driving experience through innovative partnerships with technology leaders like StoreDot.
What sets this demonstration apart is the utilisation of silicon-dominant cells in a practical driving scenario, as opposed to the traditional lab-based environment. The specially commissioned 77 kWh battery pack used in the test has the potential to be scaled up to at least 100 kWh, translating to an impressive addition of 200 miles of range to a mid-sized electric car in a mere 10 minutes. This remarkable progress underscores the potential of XFC technology to shape the future of electric mobility.
Notably, the successful XFC test conducted by Polestar and StoreDot marks a significant step towards integrating this advanced battery technology into future Polestar vehicles. The test also underscores the compatibility of XFC technology with existing DC charging infrastructure, which features an increasing number of high-power DC chargers with capacities of 350 kW or higher.
In a statement, Thomas Ingenlath, the CEO of Polestar, expressed his excitement about the milestone, highlighting the importance of addressing ‘charging anxiety’ as a key barrier to widespread electric vehicle adoption. He emphasised how the introduction of XFC technology will significantly reduce the charging time on long journeys, providing drivers with a seamless and efficient charging experience comparable to refueling a traditional petrol car.
Dr Doron Myersdorf, CEO of StoreDot, echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging the critical role of extreme fast charging technology in enabling the mass adoption of electric cars. He emphasised how this breakthrough will eliminate concerns related to range anxiety, allowing drivers to travel long distances with the same ease and convenience as their fossil fuel-powered counterparts.
The successful collaboration between Polestar and StoreDot heralds a new era of innovation in the electric vehicle industry, where cutting-edge technologies are paving the way for a sustainable and efficient future. With a shared vision of revolutionising the driving experience, these two industry leaders are driving positive change and setting new benchmarks for the automotive sector.
As we witness the evolution of electric vehicle technology, it is clear that pioneering partnerships and groundbreaking advancements like the XFC technology demonstration by Polestar and StoreDot are shaping a brighter, greener future for mobility. Stay tuned for more updates on the latest developments in the world of sustainable transportation!
