Moray seeks input on Energy Efficiency Plans

Moray Council has kicked off a three-week consultation on its Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategies (LHEES) and is seeking public input for the delivery plan. This marks the introduction of Moray’s first LHEES, paving the way for decarbonising heat in buildings and enhancing energy efficiency in the region. Local authorities are legally obligated to prepare, publish, and review an LHEES every five years.

The strategy for Moray highlights seven local priorities and serves as a platform to empower local communities to engage in a tailored approach to heat transition and locally-driven decarbonisation initiatives. The seven priorities outlined for Moray are:

  • Building sustainable and climate-resilient communities
  • Maximising knowledge and awareness to ensure success
  • A just transition for the energy system
  • Supporting a wellbeing economy, jobs, and skills
  • Addressing fuel poverty and enhancing health
  • Enhancing the energy efficiency of buildings
  • Decarbonising building heat sources

The full draft strategy and delivery plan documents are accessible online, with the consultation open until 16 May 2024. Printed copies can be obtained upon request from infohubs in all Moray libraries.

Council Leader, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, is urging locals to contribute, stating: “This strategy provides an opportunity for locals to shape the future of heat transition in Moray. By participating, we can continue our efforts towards achieving our climate change goals while providing a roadmap for individuals and businesses eager to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency.”
