Dundee Council’s Housing Forum Draws Attention
Dundee City Council is gearing up to host a major housing forum that promises to bring together professionals from various sectors within the city and beyond. The upcoming invitation-only seminar is set to tackle critical issues such as financial constraints, the age and condition of existing properties, land availability for house building, energy efficiency, and timescales.
The event, organised by Dundee City Council, will take place at Discovery Point and will aim to address local needs, circumstances, and opportunities to create better outcomes for the community. Mark Flynn, convener of the council’s neighbourhood regeneration, housing, and estate management committee, is among the key speakers for the forum.
Flynn emphasised the importance of collaboration in addressing housing challenges, stating, “Any response to the housing needs of a city like ours has to be a joint effort.” The forum will bring together a diverse range of participants, including public, private, and third sector agencies, developers, estate agents, policymakers, and housing leaders.
The goal of the symposium is to find innovative and collaborative solutions to facilitate housing-specific outcomes that align with the city’s vision for 2022-2032. The vision includes creating a caring and fair Dundee, tackling poverty, and building a greener city with strong, empowered communities.
According to Cllr Flynn, the council is proactively addressing housing challenges by piloting new service delivery methods, such as creating temporary accommodation for homeless individuals. He acknowledged the progress made in this area but stressed the need for continued collaboration to achieve better outcomes for all residents.
The Dundee Housing Seminar is scheduled to take place at Discovery Point on Wednesday, June 26. The event aims to provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss pressing housing issues and work towards sustainable solutions for the city.
