The Scottish Housing Regulator has released a report today, shedding light on their efforts towards achieving gender equality on public boards in Scotland.

The Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Act 2018 was enacted to tackle the lack of female representation in public life. As part of this legislation, public bodies are required to provide updates on their progress in meeting the specified criteria.

In 2021, Scottish Ministers appointed new members to the Regulator’s Board and are currently in the process of selecting an additional member. The Board currently comprises of an equal number of men and women, with four individuals of each gender serving on the Board.

George Walker, the chair of the Regulator, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in enhancing gender equality within the Board. He emphasised the importance of diversity in contributing to a wide array of perspectives and ideas. Looking ahead, the Regulator is committed to furthering their efforts in this area, especially in terms of succession planning for upcoming appointments by Scottish Ministers.

The Regulator’s primary focus remains on safeguarding and advancing the interests of tenants and other users of social landlords’ services. They are eager to welcome new members to their team, individuals who share the same dedication to ensuring the well-being of those they serve.

If you are passionate about contributing to the promotion of gender equality and the welfare of communities, this could be an excellent opportunity for you to consider.
