New Chief Executive appointed by Mayoral Authority

The West of England Mayoral Combined Authority has proudly announced the appointment of Stephen Peacock as their new Chief Executive Officer.
With a wealth of experience in local government leadership, Stephen currently serves as the Chief Executive of Bristol City Council. His role as Bristol’s Executive Director for Growth and Regeneration has seen him spearheading crucial projects such as the City Leap decarbonisation programme, the Temple Quarter urban renewal initiative, and a significant council house construction programme.
Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Stephen stated:
“It has been an honour to serve the residents of Bristol over the past nearly five years, particularly in my most recent position as Chief Executive for the past 18 months. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Mayor of Bristol for his unwavering support and to all the dedicated individuals at the council. I have also had the privilege of collaborating with Richard on aligning our organisations’ strategies for the region, and I commend him for his dedication while at the Combined Authority.”
He continued, “I am eagerly anticipating the chance to continue our collaborative efforts to ensure that the West of England remains a region that residents can take pride in living, working, and investing in. With substantial investment secured for employment, skills, transportation, and housing – we aim to build upon our achievements and foster a flourishing, sustainable region for all. Working alongside the mayor, our partner authorities, and the political leadership in the area will be key to this success.”
Prior to Stephen assuming his new role, the current CEO Richard Ennis will continue as interim CEO to facilitate a smooth transition. Ennis’ notable accomplishments with the combined authority include overseeing the delivery of the Portway Park and Ride, the inauguration of the first new railway station in almost a century, and the establishment of the Joint Delivery Vehicle to support the Bristol Temple Quarter development.
Mayor of the West of England, Dan Norris, expressed his satisfaction with the appointment, stating:
“I am delighted to welcome Stephen Peacock to the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority as the incoming Chief Executive. Stephen’s exceptional vision, dedication to the region, and proven experience impressed everyone involved in the rigorous selection process.
“This decision was unanimous among myself and the council leaders in the West of England. Our primary focus at the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority is to deliver tangible solutions for our community facing challenges related to the cost of living and the environmental crisis. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with Stephen to enhance employment, skills, transportation, and environmental sustainability in the region.”
