New council houses arrive in Coatbridge.

The North Lanarkshire Council has successfully completed its latest council house project at Berwick Street, Coatbridge, delivering modern, affordable homes for tenants. This project marks a significant milestone in the council’s ambitious new supply programme, which aims to provide 5,000 new homes by 2035.

The newly completed project includes nineteen properties, offering a variety of housing options such as 2-bedroom houses, 3-bedroom houses, and wheelchair-accessible bungalows. One of the tenants, Amanda O’Neil, expressed her delight with the new wheelchair-standard home, highlighting the improved quality of life for her family.

All the newly constructed homes adhere to Housing for Varying Needs standards, ensuring adaptability to suit different tenants’ requirements. Moreover, the properties are designed to be highly energy efficient, with the inclusion of renewable technologies such as a dual electric vehicle charging pillar on-site.

Councillor Michael McPake, the housing convener, emphasised the positive impact of the council’s housing investments on transforming communities and boosting the local economy. With 1,351 new homes already delivered for tenants and construction in progress at nine sites across North Lanarkshire, the council remains dedicated to its ambitious housing plans.

At the completion event, Councillor Michael McPake was accompanied by local members Councillors Tracy Carragher and Geraldine Woods, along with representatives from North Lanarkshire Council and Cruden. Steven Simpson, the managing director of The Cruden Group, commended the collaborative efforts in delivering these transformative developments.

These new homes not only align with the council’s commitment to providing energy-efficient and accessible housing but also contribute to the overall goal of creating 5,000 new homes by 2035. The successful completion of this project, supported by £1.64m of Scottish Government grant funding, underscores the council’s dedication to building sustainable communities for the future.
