Award for manager who repaired fire-damaged flats.

Project Manager Wins Industry Award for Restoring Fire-Damaged Flats
A project manager who led the reinstatement of 22 homes damaged by fire has received a prestigious construction industry award from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
Andrew Deacon, from Linear Design and Consult, was brought in to oversee the restoration of apartments at Lancefield Quay in Glasgow in late 2020.
Just a year prior, a fire had ravaged the building, necessitating the replacement of the entire top floor of the 92-unit block.
Initially, the plan was to expedite the process by using the same paint, fixtures, and fittings for each apartment. However, Andrew opted for a more personalised approach, ensuring that each home had its unique finish.
Based in Glasgow, Andrew conducted an extensive stakeholder engagement exercise, allowing tenants to select their preferred finishings for kitchens and bathrooms.
His exceptional efforts earned him the title of Construction Manager of the Year in the Low Rise Accommodation category at the annual CIOB awards.
Reflecting on the project, Andrew stated, “This project was highly bespoke and required extensive stakeholder engagement, as well as meticulous attention to detail to ensure that each of the 22 properties was reinstated according to exact requirements.”
He continued, “I am fortunate to work with a very talented team at Linear, and they have all played a crucial role in the success of the Lancefield Quay project.”
Andrew and his team commenced work on the Lancefield Quay project, situated on Glasgow’s riverside, in September 2020, completing it by April 2022.
His outstanding contributions were recognised at an esteemed awards ceremony at London’s Hilton Metropole hotel on Tuesday 9 April.
Caroline Gumble, CEO of CIOB, commended Andrew, saying, “I can only imagine the despair experienced by victims of fire-damaged homes, especially when personal belongings, some irreplaceable, are extensively damaged.”
She added, “Andrew went above and beyond to ensure that the tenants at Lancefield Quay were provided with the best possible outcome in the circumstances, making him a truly deserving recipient of this award.”
