New scheme in East Dunbartonshire tackles rogue traders

The East Dunbartonshire Trusted Trader scheme is revolutionizing the way people approach home improvements by providing a platform to connect with trustworthy traders.

This innovative initiative, backed by East Dunbartonshire Council and Trading Standards, offers a convenient way to access a curated list of local and reputable businesses that have been thoroughly vetted.

Searching for Trusted Traders is a breeze through the website www.trustedtrader.scot/EastDunbartonshire, where you can also peruse feedback and testimonials from past clients. Additionally, the Trusted Trader scheme enjoys the support of Police Scotland and www.consumeradvice.scot.

The primary objectives of this scheme are:

  • Instilling confidence in homeowners across East Dunbartonshire regarding the legitimacy of the traders they engage with
  • Promoting ethical practices within local businesses
  • Safeguarding residents against doorstep crime
  • Boosting business for local companies

The council’s Trading Standards team plays a pivotal role in managing the scheme, ensuring that traders are meticulously vetted, scrutinizing business operations regularly, and closely monitoring reviews and feedback.

Councillor Paul Ferretti, head of the council’s Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee, expressed his delight at the substantial number of local businesses participating in the Trusted Trader scheme. He emphasized the importance of potential customers visiting the website www.trustedtrader.scot/EastDunbartonshire to research businesses and read customer reviews. He also extended an invitation to local traders interested in joining the scheme.

At the core of the Trusted Trader initiative lies a comprehensive Code of Practice that encompasses:

  • Clear and transparent procedures for quoting and executing work
  • Charging a fair and reasonable price for services rendered
  • Addressing any complaints promptly and effectively

Councillor Ferretti further advised the public on precautions to safeguard against falling victim to fraudulent traders, urging individuals not to allow unexpected visitors into their homes and to refrain from making upfront payments for work that is yet to be completed.

He also stressed the importance of not succumbing to pressure to make hasty decisions, highlighting that reputable traders are willing to revisit at a later date, allowing customers the opportunity to conduct their own research.
