Loretto tenants in Dalmuir receive new seating area and extra attractions.

Tenants in Dalmuir are set to enjoy a new seating area and extra whirly gigs thanks to a community-driven initiative that allowed them to decide how to spend nearly £3000 in their area.

The residents of 20 Loretto Housing Association flats in Beardmore Street were given the opportunity to propose ideas to enhance their living environment and make their community an even more pleasant place to reside.

Loretto Housing Association initiated the ‘You Choose’ challenge, inviting tenants to participate in a brief online survey to express their opinions on what essential improvements were needed in the area and how they would prefer to see the £2800 investment allocated.

The tenants, who are part of Wheatley Group, were presented with various options to choose from. These options included the creation of a new seating area with planters and additional whirly gigs, an expansion of the drying area with clothes poles, or an upgrade to the lift entrance.

The apartment block, which was inaugurated in 2019, was constructed as part of Wheatley Group’s Livingwell service. This service aims to support elderly tenants in maintaining their independence in their own homes for as long as possible.

Laura Henderson, the managing director of Loretto Housing Association, stated, “We are dedicated to prioritising the needs and desires of our tenants, and we gave them the power to decide how to utilise the funds. They proposed some fantastic ideas, and we let them vote on the final decision. The overwhelming choice was for the development of the seating area, which will be utilised in nicer weather and for various Livingwell activities.”

The construction of the new seating area is soon to commence, with plans to begin installing the new seats and whirly gigs in the upcoming spring season.
