Barratt submits £50m plans for new homes in Aberdeenshire

Barratt & David Wilson Homes North Scotland has unveiled plans to introduce 194 new homes – with 48 affordable properties included – to the quaint village of Potterton on the northern outskirts of Aberdeen.

Following the green light on a masterplan for the site from Aberdeenshire Council in June 2023, the renowned housebuilder has now officially submitted a detailed planning application after conducting multiple consultation events over the past two years.

The proposed development, with an estimated investment of £50 million, is poised to create approximately 291 direct job opportunities in the region. Furthermore, it is expected to contribute an additional £329,000 in Council Tax revenue, thereby bolstering housing availability in the region in accordance with the stipulations of the adopted Aberdeenshire Local Development Plan.

The envisioned Potterton development comprises a mix of one to five-bedroom homes, meticulously crafted in an enviable location and tailored to cater to first-time buyers, families, and individuals looking to downsize. These homes will offer seamless connections to the AWPR and the wider surroundings, ensuring accessibility and convenience for residents.

Emphasising a seamless integration with nature, the development will boast native planting species to enhance biodiversity, provision of foraging routes, ample green spaces, and footpath links connecting the community with the neighbouring village.

Expressing his enthusiasm, David Palmer, the managing director at Barratt Homes North Scotland, remarked, “We are delighted to present our comprehensive proposals for new homes in Potterton. These plans come on the heels of Aberdeenshire Council’s approval of our Masterplan framework for the land to the northeast of Potterton in June last year.”

Palmer continued, “Through extensive collaboration with the local community, partners, our team of ecologists, and the Barratt design experts, we have crafted a vision for a charming and considerate development where residents can take pride in calling it their home.”

He added, “The proposed development will offer much-needed housing options to the residents, addressing the significant demand for new homes in the area, and will indirectly support an estimated 532 jobs within the local community.”

“Located just a stone’s throw away from our main office, Potterton holds a special place in our hearts. We are thrilled about the prospect of contributing to the sustainable expansion of the community and delivering new, high-quality energy-efficient homes.”
