New Ovo app offers discounts at 34K+ UK chargers

Ovo, the energy firm, has recently unveiled a groundbreaking app designed to provide electric vehicle (EV) drivers in the UK with exclusive discounted charging rates. The innovative Charge Anywhere service, accessible to all EV owners regardless of their energy provider, aims to streamline the process of locating, utilizing, and paying for charging through the user-friendly Ovo Charge app.

With access to over 34,000 public charging points scattered across the UK – and an impressive 400,000 throughout Europe – users of the Charge Anywhere service will also have the opportunity to earn complimentary charging miles through a specially tailored rewards programme.

One of the key highlights of the Charge Anywhere app is its potential to unlock savings exceeding £220 annually for EV drivers. By subscribing to one of Ovo Charge’s ‘Boost’ plans, which are priced at a mere £2 for ‘Light Boost’ and £8 for ‘Turbo Boost’ per month, users can benefit from substantial discounts ranging from 10-15% in comparison to standard pay-as-you-go public charging rates. This means saving up to an impressive £4.28 on every single charge.

Furthermore, subscribers to the ‘Boost’ plans will gain entry to a plethora of exclusive perks and features, enhancing their overall experience with the app. The plans are designed to be flexible, allowing users to cancel at their convenience.

Through Ovo Charge, EV drivers will have access to real-time updates on the availability and reliability of nearby public charging points, eliminating the risk of being stranded with a depleted battery. Customer feedback, including comments and photos of the charging points, can be easily shared within the app, providing the community with valuable, up-to-date information on each charger.

Additionally, all users of the Charge Anywhere service will have the convenience of tracking their energy usage and associated costs, along with the ability to make payments directly within the app – eliminating the hassle of juggling multiple cards and logins.

Mat Moakes, the chief commercial officer at Ovo, expressed enthusiasm for the launch of Charge Anywhere, stating: “We’ve made Charge Anywhere available to all EV drivers – not just Ovo customers – because we want to help more people drive sustainably. Charge Anywhere will help drivers find, use and pay for charging points and access discounted rates, with the potential to save them hundreds of pounds each year.”

In conjunction with the Charge Anywhere service, Ovo also offers the Charge Anytime plan, introduced last year. This plan enables EV owners to charge their vehicles at home for a minimal fee of 7p per kWh at any time of day, resulting in substantial cost savings for customers, with over £6 million saved collectively thus far.
