Cormac boosts road satisfaction by 12%.

Cormac once again proves itself as a top civil engineering, highway, and environmental services provider, as shown in the latest Cornwall Residents’ Survey. The survey revealed an impressive 12% increase in satisfaction levels for road maintenance and an additional 11% increase in parks and open spaces maintenance.

The 2023 survey marks the highest satisfaction level recorded in many years, showcasing Cormac’s unwavering commitment to providing exceptional services and value to its communities. They have achieved a remarkable 26% increase in resident satisfaction in road maintenance since 2018, surpassing the national average by 14% (benchmarked through the Local Government Association), despite facing a significant reduction in highway funding.

The highways administration team effectively handled over 120,000 customer enquiries from MPs, elected members, and the public, setting a high standard for customer service in 2023. In the same year, Cormac delivered over £38 million worth of environmental, social, and economic impact to Cornwall’s communities.

The survey conducted by Cornwall Council used the “Are You Being Served?” method recommended by the Local Government Association, where residents were interviewed face-to-face or by telephone to gather information. This method allows the council to compare results with those of other councils.

Additionally, besides recognition in the Cornwall Residents’ Survey, Cormac’s performance has been compared by the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) with other authorities using a family group system. The APSE 2022/23 data displayed Cornwall’s highway maintenance service as the top performer, ranking first in its family group for several factors, including customer satisfaction with road repairs, road surface conditions, and repair quality of damaged roads.

Moreover, the service delivered by Cormac ranked second in its group for speed of road repair, addressing flooding on roads and pavements, and the percentage of urgent defects made safe within target times. The service’s above-average performance in satisfaction with road maintenance is further highlighted in the 2023 National Highway and Transport (NHT) Public Satisfaction Survey Report, ranking Cornwall’s road conditions in the top quartile.

These achievements are significant, especially considering that over half of England and Wales’ local road network reportedly has less than 15 years’ structural life left. The backlog of carriageway repairs in England has reached a record high of £16.3 billion, as per the latest ALARM survey by the Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA).

Dominic Bostock, Managing Director at Cormac, expressed his delight, stating, “We are thrilled to be recognised by the residents we serve as a leading services provider. Our improvement trend and the fact that we are 14% above the national average for highways, even with reduced funding, reflect the excellent work of our delivery partnerships.”

He continued, “Our unique arm’s length company model, alongside our exceptional service standards, has contributed to a significant rise in satisfaction levels. Performance benchmarking validates that our partnerships and teams are excelling. As local councils face budget constraints, we remain committed to delivering value sustainably and innovatively to positively impact our communities, environment, and society.”
