Volkswagen boosts power for ID.3 and ID.7 GTX models.

Volkswagen has taken their ID.3 and ID.7 electric models up a notch with the introduction of the new top-of-the-line GTX variants.

VW’s new ID.3 and ID.7 GTX Tourer flagships

Unveiled ahead of their upcoming release later this year, these new models follow in the footsteps of the ID.4 and ID.5 by adding GTX versions – Volkswagen’s answer to the GTI badge for their EVs, signifying the most powerful and sporty models in their lineup. In addition to these, a GTX variant of the ID. Buzz MPV is also set to make its debut.

The ID.3 GTX will be available in two different versions, both boasting rear-wheel drive. The base model packs a punch with 286hp, while the ID.3 GTX Performance takes things up a notch with an impressive 326hp, making use of Volkswagen’s most powerful electric drive motor to date. The standard GTX can accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.0 seconds, while the ID.3 GTX Performance shaves that down to just 5.6 seconds, reaching top speeds of 180km/h (111mph) and 200km/h (124mph) respectively.

Both models are equipped with a new 79kWh lithium-ion battery that can be rapid-charged at up to 175kW, providing a 10-80% charge in approximately 26 minutes. While the exact range is yet to be officially confirmed, it is expected to be around 600km (373 miles). The ID.3 GTX also comes with a custom chassis set-up for optimal performance.

In terms of design, the GTX models feature updated styling elements such as a GTX-specific front bumper, daytime running lights, and unique 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the ID.3 boasts a range of GTX-exclusive features, along with a new cockpit setup featuring a larger 12.9-inch infotainment screen.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Volkswagen has also introduced the ID.7 GTX Tourer, setting a new standard as the most powerful Volkswagen estate ever created. Following the release of the standard ID.7 Tourer, the GTX Tourer is expected to hit the streets this summer, with the ID.7 saloon/hatchback version following later in the year.

The ID.7 GTX Tourer is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, similar to the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX, boosting its power output to 340hp from the 286hp found in the standard version. With an 86kWh battery, Volkswagen’s largest yet, the ID.7 GTX Tourer can charge at up to 200kW at DC rapid chargers, offering a 10-80% state of charge in less than 30 minutes. Exact performance and range figures are still pending confirmation.

Distinguishing itself from the standard models, the ID.7 GTX Tourer features a unique bumper with a honeycomb grille, GTX-specific light graphics including illuminated badges, and exclusive 20-inch alloys. The high-end package includes electric dual-motor all-wheel drive, IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, and 3D LED tail-lights.

Like its counterpart, the ID.7 GTX Tourer provides ample boot space with 605 litres available, expandable to 1,714 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Stay tuned for pricing details on these new VW GTX flagships as we approach their official launch.
