New alliance electrifies truck sector: EV and Spirii team up.

Vital EV, a key player in the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure sector, has teamed up with Danish software provider Spirii to revolutionise the electrification of the truck industry. This groundbreaking partnership aims to facilitate the expansion of public charging networks for Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) through the innovative Occulus charge management portal.

By allowing fleet managers to open up their charging facilities to the public, truck operators can not only offset the costs of their charging infrastructure but also tap into an alternative revenue stream. This collaborative effort will not only benefit individual operators but will also contribute to the overall growth of publicly accessible HGV charging points across Europe.

The electric truck market in Europe is projected to soar to 400,000 registrations annually by 2030, a significant leap from the current 4,000 units. Furthermore, the UK government has set ambitious targets to ban the sale of diesel trucks weighing up to 26 tonnes by 2035, with a comprehensive ban on all weight categories by 2040.

Despite the enormous potential of electric trucks in reducing carbon emissions, operators are facing challenges due to the high initial costs associated with electric vehicles. Electric trucks can cost up to three times more than their diesel counterparts, and the installation of ultra-rapid EV chargers required for their larger batteries presents an additional financial hurdle for truck operators.

The cost of EV chargers is directly correlated with their charging speed, as a greater number of power modules are necessary to facilitate faster charging rates. The scarcity of publicly accessible charging points is another pressing issue that hampers the widespread adoption of electric trucks.

Vital EV and Spirii have come together to address these challenges and deliver a unique solution that promises to transform the landscape of electric truck charging infrastructure. Alex Rae, Managing Director of Vital EV, expressed his enthusiasm about the joint project, stating, “As a leading provider of EV charging solutions, Vital EV is committed to developing innovative strategies to overcome the obstacles hindering the electrification of the trucking industry.”

He further added, “We are delighted to collaborate with a globally renowned software company on this groundbreaking initiative, which not only alleviates the financial burdens for fleets but also fosters the proliferation of publicly accessible charging stations for electric trucks.”

Tore Harritshøj, CEO of Spirii, highlighted the unique features of their joint solution, stating, “Our collaborative approach allows for public access to chargers at strategically timed intervals, coupled with flexible pricing options. Given the increasing demand for electric truck charging facilities, operators who embrace this model and open their charging stations to the public can expect to attract a large user base and generate additional revenue.”

In a bold move last November, Vital EV announced its pioneering MegaWatt Charging System (MCS), tailor-made for electric truck operations. With an impressive charging speed of up to 1,200kW (1.2MW), an MCS can add a remarkable 372 miles of range to an average 26-tonne rigid truck in just 30 minutes*.
