The project utilises a central building with pumps and a heat exchanger connected to a nearby reservoir, supplying ten-degree water throughout the year for optimal efficiency. Each participating house is equipped with a compact heat pump, resembling a tall fridge-freezer in size, to harness the energy provided by the water network.

Alastair highlighted the user-friendly nature of these heat pumps, operating quietly and seamlessly within households. With the success of projects like the one in Welborne Garden Village, the potential for scaling up heat pump technology across the UK becomes increasingly promising.
